US National Parks and Governor Pardee: The Afternoon Carriage House Salon continues!
The Pardee Home Museum will host a lecture and reception in the Carriage House "salon" on Sunday, November 13th at 4pm. commemorating the 100th year anniversary of the U.S. National Parks. Park Ranger, Nathan Tusa from the John Muir Museum home will be speaking about the history of the formation of the Parks department. President Theodore Roosevelt and our own Governor George Pardee were part of the early movement led by naturalist, activist and co-founder of the Sierra Club, John Muir.
In March of 1903, President Theodore Roosevelt, John Muir and Pardee toured the Yosemite Valley at the request of Muir, camping under the Sequoia redwoods, hiking the trails, viewing Bridal Falls and Inspiration Point. Muir was concerned about the future of the valley and had requested the President come and experience the splendor of the area. Roosevelt came, George Pardee joined them, by the end of this 3 day camping trip, true friendships began and the preservation of the Valley was insured!
After Ranger Tusa's lecture, we will go into the Pardee home for a lovely buffet of hors d'oeuvres and champagne. $25 per person, space is limited, so make your reservations today! All proceeds go to the Pardee Home Museum.
Note: In the photograph on this Brown Paper Ticket page you will see Governor George Pardee (left of center in the long coat), President Teddy Roosevelt (center next to Governor Pardee) and John Muir (with the long beard next to the President).
