TWIST - a Dickens' of a Musical
TWIST is a brand new musical twist on the Dickens tale with an original book, music, and lyrics by award-winning writer/composer Richard ODonnell (under his pen name Brazillia R. Kreep), and will open this October for a three-week run (October 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 at 7 pm and matinees October 9, 16 & 23 at 2 pm).
The cast includes Chris Rodriguez as Oliver Twist, Hailey Weber as Agnes Brownlow, Cole Siebels (Gouverneur) as the Artful Dodger, Richard ODonnell as Fagin, Angela Conzone Dwyer as Nancy Sikes, Christopher Dwyer as Bill Sikes, Shelly Murdock as Mrs. Sowerberry, Ryan Woodard as Mr. Sowerberry, Krista Kelly as Mrs. Brownlow, Angelina Schembry (Lisbon) as Nelly, Grace Brunet (Morristown) as Napper, Gabby Ott as Minerva, Madison Miller as Newt, Conner Grenier as Octavius, Macy Murdock as Rip Torn, Megan Gardner as Hamstring, and Jennifer Ann as Prudence.
The central theme of our musical TWIST is motherhood, says ODonnell. Charles Dickens was certainly writing about the brutality of Victorian street-life and we represent that in this production, but in our version, the women play all the vital characters. Each of them, of course, strongly influenced by their relationship with the young Oliver. We have his mother Agnes (Weber), who passed in childbirth only to return as Olivers guardian angel, Nancy (Conzone Dwyer), a dishonest but affectionate barmaid who desires to abandon her wicked ways to serve as Olivers surrogate mother, and the widow Mrs. Brownlow (Kelly), Olivers real grandmother, who desires to raise him as well. In the end, they all have tough decisions to make.
SJCT principal creative staff includes Executive Producer and Director R. ODonnell, Musical Director and Choreographer Angela Conzone Dwyer, Arranger and Orchestrator Ryan C. McNally, Scenic and Prop Designer Stephen Chambers, Costume and Makeup Designer Karen Fischbeck (Heuvelton), Technical Director and Production Coordinator Christopher Dwyer, Stage Manager Shelly Murdock, and Props Master Tonya Ott. Collectively they have over five decades of professional theatrical and academic experience including regional, stock, bus and truck, off-off-Broadway, off-Broadway, and Broadway stages.
Other vital SJCT personnel includes Rector Dr. Fr. Michael ODonnell, assistant Technical Director Ryan Woodard, additional Costumes Ann Losurdo, assistant Props Emma Murray, Lights Operator Katelin Gardner, assistant Costumer Hannah Gardner, house manager Sheila LaMere, and general manager Bill LaMere.
Tickets go on sale in mid-August and will be available electronically at brownpapertickets.com for $10.00 (under TWIST or ST. JOHNS CONSERVATORY THEATER) or at the door the night of the performances for $15. For more information, please visit St. Johns Conservatory Theaters
