What is Domestic Violence? Domestic Violence is the use of physical, threatening, or controlling behavior by a spouse, partner, or someone involved in a dating relationship. The abuse often becomes more frequent and more violent over time.
Though domestic violence is often physical through acts such as pushing, hitting, forced sexual acts, and more, it can take many other forms including threats, insults, isolation, lying, neglect, and financial limitation.
Domestic violence affects both the victim's physical and mental health, and also has a devastating effect on children who are exposed to it.
Who Are We? Safe Passage has been empowering victims of domestic violence to live independently and free from abuse since 1997. What started as a crisis helpline and limited outreach services like court advocacy and support groups, quickly became much more. In 2004, Safe Passage completed construction of their state-of-the-art shelter facility, and continued expanding their outreach services. To date, the organization has helped over 10,000 individuals struggling with domestic violence through their award-winning intervention services and prevention initiatives.
