Feats of Translation
Translators as superheroes. What are the myths? What are the realities? What can we learn about the extraordinary capabilities of professional and literary writers who take texts from one language and put them into another?

Part of a "translator-as-superhero" themed day at the Arts + Literature Laboratory, this is an hour-long discussion of how works of fiction and non-fiction get translated. And, as we indeed live in times of technological superpowers, the talk will be held as a Google Hangout!

Given the hybrid nature of the presentation and discussion, all participants are required to be present in-person at the Arts + Literature Laboratory, even though Jamie will be "hanging out" via Google from her home office in Italy. We invite you to get your name on the list of participants and join us with your Saturday morning coffee or hot chocolate from any great neighboring "hangout"!

Jamie will start the discussion with her most recent academic translation: The Myth of the Superhero by Marco Arnaudo. She will then segue to her current project, a graphic novel narrative - a genre that continues to grow in popularity, both in and out of academic circles.

If you are: an academic interested in translating or being translated; a creative wondering how to translate a graphic novel; if you are are studying translation or want to participate in a discussion with an award-winning translator ~ this talk is for you!
(ATA continuing education points will be awarded).
