Carnival of Animals
San Francisco Dance Space is proud to present A CARNIVAL OF ANIMALS! Join us as we celebrate a new home and a wonderful year of dance with your children. SFDS students ages 3-13 will take the stage June 11-12 to showcase this year's progress, achievements, and love of dance.
When five friends hear of a new carnival coming to town, their curiosity gets the best of them. The girls tip toe out of their home and into the zoological wonder that is the Carnival of Animals!
Long recognized as a whimsical introduction to classical music, Camille Saint-Sans composed The Carnival of the Animals in 1886 to express in music some of the silly habits his friends shared with animals. Saint-Sans was concerned that the piece was too frivolous to be considered as serious music and he only allowed one piece, The Swan, to be performed during his lifetime. He left instructions in his will that the entire piece could not be played until after his death. Carnival was published posthumously in 1922 and quickly became one of his most popular works.
