Hughie
Small time gangster Erie Smith tells the tale of his friendship with the late Hughie to his unwilling audience, the night clerk at his residential hotel. Like many of O'Neil's plays, Hughie explores the ideas of alienation, loneliness, and the need for a human connection.
First presented on Broadway in 1964 starring Jason Robards (Tony nomination), it was subsequently revived in 1975 starring Ben Gazzara (also Tony nominated), 1996 starring Al Pacino, and this year starring Forrest Whittaker as Erie.
The South Stream production will star not one, but two local stage veterans, Brook North and David Klionsky, alternating in the roles of Erie and Night Clerk. Tickets will be $15, but if you want to come back and see it the other way it will only be an additional $5. Directed by Andy Hayworth.
South Stream Productions is operated by Brook North and John Honeycutt. Previously, South Stream has presented Copenhagen, Seascape, The Caretaker, and Time Stands Still.
