Event
Achilles Heal 2016
This event is to raise awareness about PTSD and the suicide rate affecting our veterans and first responders. Join us as we share, support and encourage each other to tell our stories as we march through Washington DC viewing various memorials and moments along the way. This is a non-paced event and feel free to carry as little or as much weight as you would like. We are here to build camaraderie and support each other.
We want to have fun, but safety is a priority. Be sure you are comfortable with the weight you carry for the entire march. We might not always be on a designed walking route and traffic might be present. Be sure to bring plenty of water or sports drinks and snacks. We tried to plan stops and bathroom breaks into the route, but we are working to keep everyone together in order to complete our distance so stops might not be frequent.
The start point will be the Iwo Jima War Memorial located at Arlington Blvd and Meade St. in Arlington VA. The event will begin at 8am. Both the Arlington National Cemetery and Rosslyn metro stops are within 10 mins walking from the start. There is also limited street parking available. We will be ending the march at the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial at the Pentagon. The end point is located by two metros - the Pentagon and Pentagon City. There is also paid public parking available across the street from the memorial at the Fashion Center at Pentagon City.
