Participant Walking Waiver: I acknowledge that my participation in the 3 mile, "Walk the Walk" Lupus Fundraiser involves a risk of injury, including bodily injury, and assume the risk for same. On my own behalf and on behalf of my heirs and legal representatives and to the fullest extent permitted by law, I hereby release and discharge Transforming Woman LLC, John Marshall Metro High School and their respective directors, officers, employees, affiliates, members, agents and representatives, of and from any and all liability for injury, death, or damages and/or any other claims, demands, losses or damages, incurred by me in connection with any aspect of the 3 mile walk. By purchasing my ticket I acknowledge that my participation in the 3 mile Walk the Walk for the Lupus Fundraiser is completely voluntary. I understand that my decision to participate, or not participate in this activity is by my own choice.

Walk the Walk

This project was inspired by my sister Purlonda Gorman who lost her battle to Lupus in 2006, at the age of 26. I know its been a while but at the time I was a little younger and in a different head space. This is something Ive wanted to do since 2013, and now with the help and resources it will be possible. Not a day goes by that I dont think about my sister and what wed be laughing about today. Her only son who had to go through his most important years without a mom, I cant imagine his pain. Before her diagnosis I had never even heard of Lupus, and after her death it seemed like it was everywhere.

The purpose of the event is to cause awareness, to teach about the virus and know the symptoms. My sister was scared, felt alone and many days would ask herself, Why me? I didnt know what to do, but just love her. Only if she/we would have known about support groups, went to the doctor in time and fought harder maybe shed still be here. Its a battle but one thats worth fighting, and I want to get that out there. I know other friends and family fighting that same battle every day and I want to help in any way that will shine some light on the virus and help raise money to find ways to beat it.

Tickets are $25, but supporters are welcomed to donate more (the minimum is $25).If you're a vendor please email transformingwoman@gmail.com. The walk itself will starts at 6pm and from there we will hold a candle light ceremony. There will be food, entertainment and more family fun.
