"Building Storytellers: A Workshop for Young Writers" by Amanda Zieba
Everwood Farmstead Foundation is proud to present "Building Storytellers: A Workshop for Young Writers" by Amanda Zieba on Saturday, August 6th from 10 am-4 pm! This workshop is designed for students about to enter the 6th through 9th grades.

Amanda Zieba is a middle school teacher, wife and mother, and a writer any minute she can find. She has written seven books and over 100 lifestyle and education articles for a variety of online audiences including Yahoo.com, The Nerdy Book Club Blog and Funds for Writers. And she has facilitated writers workshops in schools across the state of Wisconsin.

Workshop participants (class size will not exceed 20) will work with Amanda to learn techniques for creating and harvesting interesting story ideas. Through a variety of writing exercises participants will work to improve writing skills in the areas of characterization and setting. Students will use "Under Construction: A Young Writers Workbook" (included in the price of the workshop), idea generation games, natural inspiration, author presentations and peer critiques to polish their work. At the end of the day, parents/guardians are invited to be guests at a culminating reading festival, where participants that volunteer (no pressure!) are welcome to share their work in the barn.

The price for the Workshop is $50 a person (which includes "Under Construction: A Young Writers Workbook"). The workbook is a 140 page spiral journal filled with writing prompts, exercises, tips, techniques and advice from Amanda and several other writers. Paper and pencils will also be provided.

Participants should bring:
* A bag lunch (drinks will be provided)
* That special notebook, pen or laptop that the student uses to write
* 3 printed copies of a piece that the student has previously written (nothing longer than 10 pages, please). This can be a work in progress and does not have to be a complete story.
