Ethnobotanist Kathleen Harrison, M.A., teaches this popular series again. Visit West Sonoma County for a day of slide talks and discussion about plant and mushroom knowledge from around the the globe, as well as the traditions of indigenous people of this Northern California region. Meet for four full days, the second Saturday of each month, March through June. We cover basic botany, mycology (study of fungi), herbalism, food history, TEK (Traditional Ecological Knowledge), nature mythology, visionary species, shamanic traditions, and ways to live in an alive, nature-based worldview.
Class size is 15-30 participants. Meet other great folks who love plants and learning. All ages of adults are welcome. We end most days with a local nature walk, to see/touch/smell the plant species that grow wild in our region. Share lunch and laughs with Kat and her guests. With four meetings over four months, we have much to muse about together.
Special new addition: VISIT the Botanical Dimensions Ethnobotany Library in Occidental, peruse the books about the topic of the day. Support BD Library or BD's other projects, become a member if you like.
Former participants agree, this is a mind-expanding course!
Times: Class meetings are Saturdays, 10am-4:30pm. March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11. (If you must miss a class in this series, you may attend another one-day class that Kat offers during 2016.)
Location: Classes held in the village of Occidental, West Sonoma County, west of Sebastopol and a few miles from Freestone, the Russian River, and the Sonoma Coast. Address: 3830 Doris Murphy Court, at Graton Road and Bohemian Hwy.
