Cornish Theater's annual Winter New Works Festival is a series of readings of new plays by members of the senior class in the Theater/Original Works program. The writers collaborate on the development of their scripts with professional directors and dramaturgs, and casts of Cornish Theater students.

Proceeds from this event provide core funding to Cornish student scholarships which means that your ticket purchase today directly benefits the arts education of our Cornish students! Thank you in advance for your support!

Johnny & Maggie, by Haley Butler Bates | February 12 and 13, 8pm
Director: Kelly Kitchens
Dramaturg: Elizabeth Heffron

Johnny is running from violence. Maggie is running towards happiness. They collide on a Greyhound bus, but are soon kicked off to find themselves alone together in the middle of nowhere. With their individual pasts chasing them down, they struggle to accept each others' demons, while overcoming their own, as they make their way towards a mythic "coast."

Silence Beneath Sound, by Michelle Domanowski | February 19 and 20 at 8pm
Director: Kathleen Collins
Dramaturg: Y York

Camille is a biracial woman who wants nothing more than to lead her firm's newest advertising campaign, celebrating diversity. As she works to promote the idea that every woman of color is unique, it becomes clear that the people around her see her as anything but. In our world of social media, where we present ourselves however we want, Silence Beneath Sound explores whether we truly have the ability to control how people see us.

House of Gold, by Te Yelland | February 26 and 27 at 8pm
Director: Wayne Rawley
Dramaturg: Scot Augustson

An adaptation of the Chinese folktale, Ten Brothers, House of Gold focuses on a family whose world comes crashing down around them after a young girl drowns. Ms. Bao and her four identical daughters must unite as they fend against a villages need for retribution and come to terms with the power of their own supernatural gifts.
