You Bring the Party
Small Art is throwing a party for the brokenhearted, and you're invited.
You Bring the Party is a shared evening of performance and participatory art work exploring heartbreak & disappointment created by Laura Holway, Emily Gastineau & Billy Mullaney, and Taylor Baldry.
Emily Gastineau and Billy Mullaney will perform material from a Fire Drill project in process, recontextualized by and resituated for You Bring the Party. Here, they are interested in pseudo-empiricism, whether art can make people do things, confusing warmth and cold, and following a score literally.
Laura Holway is interested in throwing parties, and how viewing performance and the long Minnesota winter can both bring strangers together. She's created a new movement trio for (and with) dancers Charles Campbell, Erika Hansen and Blake Nellis, featuring text by Rachel Jendrzejewski. In it she explores grief, rituals, how memory changes over time, and whether or not these things can coexist with humor.
Taylor Baldry creates art and experiences that are accessible, entertaining, participatory, and that promote interaction and community involvement, and will share activities and elements that shape a party-like atmosphere and connect strangers to one another.
---- Small Art creates performance experiences that build community and connection, and gives independent artists a platform for experimenting with new work.
Fresh Oysters Performance Research is a new studio space in Minneapolis shared by performance makers Fire Drill, Skewed Visions, and Laurie Van Wieren.
