Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (minneapolis)
Casting Spells Productions presents Frankie and Johnny in the Claire de Lune, by Terrance McNally, November 5 - December 6, 2015 at the Minneapolis Theatre Garage, 711 W. Franklin Ave (at Lyndale). This production is directed by James Detmar and stars Shanan Custer and Charles Hubbell.

A classic American comedy/drama, Frankie and Johnny focuses on two lonely, middle-aged people whose first date ends with their tumbling into bed. The two are in her one room walk-up apartment in the west side of New York City. Johnny, a short order cook, and Frankie, a waitress, work together in a New York diner. Johnny is certain he has found his soul mate in Frankie. She, on the other hand, is far more cautious and disinclined to jump to conclusions and at first has written off the encounter as a one night stand. As the night unfolds, they slowly begin to reveal themselves to each other as they take tentative steps towards the possible start of a new relationship.

Frankie and Johnny opened Off-Broadway in 1987 and starred Kathy Bates and F. Murray Abraham. For her performance Kathy Bates was nominated for the 1987-1988 Obie for Outstanding Performance. Revived on Broadway in 2002 starring Edie Falco and Stanley Tucci, the play received Tony nominations for Best Revival Of A Play and for Stanley Tucci for Best Performance By A Leading Actor In A Play.

The play has adult themes and includes brief nudity.

The play runs Nov. 5 - Dec. 6. Performances are Thurs - Sat evenings at 7:30pm and Sun matinees at 2:00pm. Ticket prices range from $25 - $28. A reduced price preview performance is scheduled for Wed Nov. 4 at 7:30pm and an Industry Night performance has been added for Mon Nov. 23. There will be no performance Nov.26.
