Chelle's Introduction to Entertainment Law
Whether a musician, artisan, writer, athlete or actor, your livelihood is based around "the deal". Now, that "deal" isn't always going to be the million dollar recording deal or endorsement dealit could be as simple as an agreement to perform cover songs at the local bar. Or, it could be your first book deal. Or, maybe it's a royalties contract. These agreements range from the very simple to extremely complex., and you need to understand the basics of how to protect your interests and what you are signing.
This is critical because, quite frankly, oftentimes, may people will take advantage of entertainers. You need to be focusing on your craft, not pending litigation. It's much easier to do so if you have a basic understanding of what you are contracting for. Now, this course can never take the place of the services of a reputable entertainment attorney, but it will give you an idea of when red flags are presented and when to seek the advice of an attorney.

*Well behaved children are welcome! There is no daycare available, but this is invaluable training for youth interested in careers in the entertainment field, as well as their parents.
Please bring paper, a writing utensil and folding chair. Feel free to bring your own snacks, but light refreshments and lunch will be provided on Saturday, and light dinner fare on Sunday.
