Forgotten Chicago Modernist Peterson Walking Tour
Peterson Avenue on the North Side developed in a different manner than almost any other major street in the city. Forgotten Chicago's all-new and exclusive walking tour will examine its history as a street of small office buildings, which comprises one of the largest collections of Mid-Century Modern architecture in the city. Completely overlooked, the details and integrity of many of these buildings remains remarkably intact as one of the best examples of 50s and 60s vernacular commercial architecture anywhere in the region.
Both the familiar landmarks of Peterson Avenue will be explored, such as the famous Wolfy's hot-dog-on-a-fork sign, as well as the numerous and utterly forgotten landmarks that still remain. We will explore why this street developed the way it did, some of the outstanding residential architecture that comprises the surrounding communities, and many other oddities during this all-new walking tour.
