Laura Sanders and Michael Meyers are leaving Columbus but, before they leave their comedy birthplace, they're hosting a live comedy special and album recording at the Garden Theater's Main Stage. Join them on September 1 for what could be the jumping off point of fame and fortune, or the last good thing they do before they move into their parents' basements forever.
Describing her life as "29 years of 'baby's day out,'" Laura Sanders is headed to New Orleans to see how weird it gets there. Pretending not to be a graphic designer by day, Sanders has been featured on Fox's LaughsTV, and featured in such acclaimed lineups as Chicago's Comedians You Should Know, LA's Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen, Bloomington's Limestone Comedy Festival, Wilmington's Cape Fear Comedy Festival, and New York's She Devil Comedy Festival. Sanders recorded her first album, Ohio Built Lady, in Columbus in 2012. Since then, she's taken new material all over the country and is eager to capture it with her favorite audience, Columbus. Sanders plans to come at this comedy special and album recording with the same ferocity she displayed when facing down GERD as a child.
In the five years Michael Meyers has spent in Columbus honing jokes described as dry, dark, silly, and 'I don't get it,' he has been assaulted by women after shows on two separate occasions. One woman attacked with her hand in the form of a slap, and the other with a lemon that missed the intended target by approximately ten feet (to the left). Between attacks, Meyers has performed all over the Midwest, been a finalist in the Columbus Funny Bone's Talent Search and Go Banana's Funniest Person in Cincinnati Contest, helped produce the fifth and sixth Columbus Comedy Festivals, and was featured in the Columbus Alive. Will his new home in Chicago be more hospitable? Probably not. Meyers looks forward to celebrating the comedy he's developed in Columbus with this first special and album recording, and he's thrilled audiences will be able to enjoy them while he is tucked away in a separate building, safe from citrus-based projectiles.
In addition to Sanders and Meyers, the crowd will get to enjoy Columbus Comedy favorites Brooke Cartus and Kamari Stevens.
So whether you are sad to see Sanders and Meyers go, or excited to spit on their shoes as they get off stage, grab a friend you love to laugh with, or a date you can't imagine you'll want to "talk" with much, and come down to the Garden Theater Main Stage on September 1 for this special send-off. Tickets are $15. A limited quantity of $25 V.I.P. tickets, which provide reserved table seating and are armed with delicious and complimentary Actual Brewing Beer, are also available. The show starts at 7:30pm, with doors opening an hour before showtime, so get there early and grab just the right amount of drinks to make you laugh loudly but not heckle.
