Angel Island Immigration Station Family History/Reunion Day
This is a great opportunity to explore the former U.S. Immigration Station, a National Historic Landmark at Angel Island State Park. Learn from descendants of immigrants about how they researched their stories and enjoy the beautiful island. At this time, we have speakers or information about Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Korean, Jewish, and Russian immigration stories. We will also have an update about the progress of converting the former public health museum into a Pacific Coast Immigration Center and ways you can help.
Take the 9:45 a.m. ferry from San Francisco or 10:00 ferry from Tiburon to arrive on the island around 10:20. Take the 30 minute scenic walk (after an initial 140 steps to the main road) and then explore the grounds and Immigration Station starting at 11 a.m. before the program starts at 11:30 in the former mess hall which was in use during World War II. Shuttle tickets are also available (see below).
There are picnic benches on the site of the former Asian mess hall right next to the Immigration Station building, as well as other sites where you can eat close to the bay. Feel free to pack your own lunch and snacks.
Our formal speakers will end around 1 p.m.; after that you can talk to them and learn from displays in the Immigration Station from researchers and also get advice on searching for your family's roots from volunteers and Ancestry.com experts until 3 p.m.
