7th Door/Sistuh-Wise
The 7th Door, by playwright Sharon J. Willis, is about an Old Man and a Young Man playing chess. Every move made the players evokes an experience from the past behind seven doors. The past, present and future are intertwined in a 'Twilight' setting of life's journeys as played in a game of chess.
Play features Jonathan Blanchard as Jay, the Young Man; Derrick Jackson as Junius Bailey, the Old Man and a host of other interesting characters including DuJuan Paxton as the 'antagonist', Donna Lloyd as the Old Man's love interest, Jacy Jones as the loyal friend, Kathye J. Gary as Sarah Bailey, the Old Man's wife, Jarett James as the Reverend, LaToya Morgan and Natali Johnson as the 'Dirty Girls', and Amaria Edmond as the Young Man's Special 'Love Interest'.
Sistuh-Wise opens with two sisters and their long-time house servant in a dialogue about domestic violence that quickly deteriorates into their own self-esteem issues. This 30 minute Radio Drama features actors Bernice Hall as Zelphinia Sullivan-McKinsey, a retired school teacher in the elitist circle; Yolonda Williams as Florenda "Renda" Sullivan, Zelphinia's younger world traveling sister, who has enjoyed the life of a professional jazz singer; and Deborah McCrimmon as Pearlie Reed, Zelphinia's House Keeper and long-time family friend.
Commentary: Playwright, Sharon J. Willis sets this 'Radio Drama', typically meant for a recording studio environment, within the framework of a theatrical setting.
