Waging Peace in Difficult Times
This event, presented by Paul K. Chappell, will be a full day training (9 am to 4 pm)in peace leadership skills, sponsored by the Lynchburg Peace Education Center. Participants will learn skills for application from everyday family/work situations to social movements, including such topics as: three methods of conveying respect, the anatomy of aggression, using respect as a foundation of moral authority, how calmness can deescalate warning aggression, why people fear conflict, the six types of propaganda (or dehumanization), how mental and physical trauma create bullying, why waging peace is more effective than violence, and more. Learn the keys to human harmony and successful interactions--personal or professional--from this ex-soldier who now works as a warrior for peace.
Paul K. Chappell, a West Point graduate, Iraq War veteran, and peace thought leader, speaks and teaches across the country and internationally in his role as the Peace Leadership Director for the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation. The author of four books in his seven-book series, The Road to Peace, his most recent title is "The Art of Waging Peace: A Strategic Approach to Improving Our Lives and the World" His teaching is both practical--grounded in his experience growing up in a violent household and as a war veteran--as well as inspiring and hopeful, drawing on his extensive research of successful peace strategies from the campaigns of great leaders working for human rights around the world.
