THE MISANTHROPE by Moliere English verse translation by Katie Fanning Edited by Glenn Provost and Allyson Capetta
Directed and Conceived by Allyson Capetta Stage Managed by Laurel Detkin
In this fresh-faced reimagining of Moliere's masterpiece, we leave the musty French court for the hallowed halls of Yale in the late '40's. A group of seniors bide their time until graduation by consuming themselves with a daunting task...choosing a suitable spouse. Although Alceste can't bear the vapid and dishonest carrying-on of his Fraternity brothers and classmates, he also can't help but be swept into hypocrisy by his unrelenting adoration for the queen of cunning, Celimene. Alliances are built and broken, secrets are hidden and unearthed, hearts are won and annihilated...and sometimes people are just downright cranky in this playful and sardonic tale.
