The tour ends close to some great Lincoln Park restaurants: Mon Ami Gabi, R.J. Grunts, and Chicago Pizza and Over Grinder are some of my favorites.

Explore Lincoln Park's Monuments with a Local Author
Groups meet at the Greene Vardiman Black monument. Participants should wear good walking shoes, and are welcome to bring bicycles to pedal the tour.

Vast and green, with hidden nature nooks and myriad museums, Chicago's Lincoln Park is a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. When it comes to the commanding, bronze figures that populate the grounds, however, even longtime residents may find their curiosity piqued. Enter author and architecture expert Krista August, who, having explored the subject in her award-winning book Giants in the Park, guides walking or biking participants on a two-hour tour of Lincoln Park's monumental art.

Statues You'll Meet
The route will take you past monuments to Ulysses S. Grant, Abraham Lincoln, Rene Robert de LaSalle, Friedrich von Schiller, Greene Vardiman Black, William Shakespeare, Hans Christian Andersen, and more.

Statues You Won't Meet
Krista will also discuss statues that aren't there anymore, and will touch upon the park's past as a cemetery.

History You'll Hear
While you snap pictures and see the artwork up close, Krista will share information on the sculptors, benefactors, unveiling ceremonies, and cultural significance of each work.

About the Host
Krista August literally wrote the book on Lincoln Park's monumental art. The former Chicago Architecture Foundation guide penned the nonfiction work Giants in the Park, which went on to win awards from the Illinois State Historical Society and the Chicago Writers Association. Today, Krista shares her artistic insight with audiences of all ages during multimedia presentations, and hosts walking tours that take participants up and close and personal with Chicago's statues.
