What can an artist expect when presented with a public art contract? How might a contract with a foreign governmental entity, or for a temporary installation, differ from a domestic sale or permanent installation? What provisions should the artist review carefully when negotiating the responsibilities of each party?
Krista Mirhoseini will cover contractual considerations for public art purchases, loans, and installations, including engineering and site preparation, payment terms, insurance and risk of loss, shipping, indemnification provisions, and intellectual property rights. Ruri Yampolsky will follow up with an overview of contracts that an artist might see from a public entity. She will touch on what are considered "best practices" among public art administrators and how that will impact the artists' contracts.

About Our Presenters:
Krista Mirhoseini has been corporate counsel at Chihuly Studio since 2012 and advises the Studio regarding public and private commissions, exhibitions, gallery representation, intellectual property protection and licensing, and a wide variety of other matters that come her way as the sole in-house attorney. Krista has over 20 years of legal experience, particularly in civil defense litigation. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, law degree from Marquette University, and LL.M. (Marine Affairs) from the University of Washington.
Ruri Yampolsky oversees the public art program for the city of Seattle's Office of Arts & Culture, working to integrate the ideas and work of artists into the public realm and expanding the public experience with art. With more than 20 years in the field, she has, managed a range of public art projects. She has also spent time focusing on best practices for public art administration, developing policies, procedures and contracts, investigating issues of artists' rights, and coordinating the program's artwork conservation efforts. She has been a member of several interdepartmental teams addressing city-wide planning issues such as the Central Waterfront. She is also a registered architect with a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University, and earned her bachelor of art's in architecture with a minor in Latin from Barnard College.
