Masks and Masquerades
Robin Vaughn, Arts Enrichment Specialist and Instructional Designer alongside Martie McNabb of S&T, Thingtide Show and Tale, are joining forces to examine the mystique behind the mask with a multi-experiential event, Masks and Masquerades. Whether your story is a case of mistaken identity, tomfoolery or downright mischief, come prepared to tell us about a time when you went looking for your crush or a soul mate, or even a rival, while donning a masquerade mask.
Part One - 6:30PM 8:00PM
Join Robin for a Venetian-inspired Mask Making Workshop. She will guide participants through the process of creating their "alter ego", the embellished half-mask. Materials will be supplied and participants, male and female, will personalize their masks with decorative elements. The mask will be a symbolic replica of the time that wearing a mask influenced your persona.
Note: No experience is necessary just express your creativity and have a good time. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase from the venue, Branded Saloon's bar. The project does involve glue (and may not be washable) so please dress accordingly.
Part Two - 8:00PM 9:30PM
Martie will host the storytelling portion of the evening when participants use their masks, prop-style to elevate their storytelling game. We want to know if your words and ways were emboldened by the rouse of wearing a mask? Were you able to observe human nature with a greater sense of freedom? Were you inspired by a literary figure in a similar situation? What happened when you revealed yourself or did you?
Note: Storytellers will have between 3-5 minutes to take the stage. You're not required to share a story. You can participate in the workshop and then just look and listen, if you prefer.
