The Killing of Sister George
Max & Louie Productions presents the St. Louis premiere of the groundbreaking British dark comedy, The Killing of Sister George by Frank Marcus.

"We are so excited to bring to St. Louis audiences this dynamic and powerful play," said Stellie Siteman, artistic director of Max & Louie Productions. "It's bold and brilliantly funny but raises fascinating and complex questions about female love and friendship."

Lusty, gin-swilling, cigar-chomping, lesbian, June Buckridge plays the beloved rural nurse, Sister George, the maternal heart and soul of the folksy BBC radio serial Applehurst. When studio executives decide to boost ratings and neutralize their difficult star's public relations problems, the queen of the soaps finds her throne in jeopardy. The undercurrents pull June, her fragile younger "companion," and a wily female BBC executive into a precarious minefield of mayhem and manipulation.

In 1965, The Killing of Sister George shocked and excited audiences in the UK, scandalized Broadway in 1966, and the mainstream 1968 film received a rare X-rating. With a shockingly contemporary point of view, Mr. Marcus examines the nature of sexual identity, power, and politics in the changing world order of London during the mid-1960s.

The Killing of Sister George will run July 10-26 at the Wool Studio Theatre in the JCC's Staenberg Family Complex, 2 Millstone Campus Dr., St. Louis, MO, 63146.

General admission is $35, with special rates ($30) for seniors (65+), and students (with ID). Group rate information is available at www.maxandlouie.com.
