BIRDS OF PARADISE (Spring 2015)
The Birds of Paradise are a performance troupe selected by special invitation at The Playful Peacock. This ensemble focuses on group choreography, costuming, and performance skills. They perform in student showcases, large productions, and outside bookings.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:
Gina Louise is an innovator in the Minneapolis cabaret scene, earning accolades as a performer, choreographer, teacher, and producer. A creative force onstage and off, she brings 20 years of theater experience to all her projects, including small cabaret shows, theatrical extravaganzas, soirees, fundraisers, and festivals. Her trademark style is a sumptuous juxtaposition of high and low art, showcasing the best international and local names in cabaret, burlesque, drag, circus, and music. Ms. Louise is founder and artistic director of The Minneapolis Burlesque Festival, Kiss of Fire Cabaret, The Peacock Showgirls, and Best of Midwest Burlesk Festival, to name a few. She was in the original cast of Le Cirque Rouge, the very first new burlesque show in the region (2003), and a founder and producer of Lili's Burlesque Revue (2004-2012). She has performed at the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas, the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and stages across the Twin Cities.

FACULTY
Founders Ophelia Flame and Gina Louise are pioneers in the new burlesque movement and have been teaching since 2005. As the Twin Cities' first burlesque instructors, they have built a solid curriculum and cultivated a dedicated following of students over the past decade. With the addition of powerhouse performer Elektra Cute in 2013, the faculty boasts a combined total of 60 years of theatrical training and stage experience. Ophelia, Gina, and Elektra share their glittery wisdom and generous instruction as they welcome you on your burlesque journey.

At the Playful Peacock, we teach burlesque technique, performance, and history while encouraging self-expression, personal transformation, and body confidence. We offer a joyful, supportive environment and welcome students of all levels and backgrounds. We celebrate burlesque as a non-traditional, feminist performance art championed by women and supportive entities. We are part of the global burlesque community, keeping the art of burlesque alive through education and performance.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES
There are several opportunities to perform with The Playful Peacock! We produce three Student Showcases per year, falling at the end of each session. For a $10 administrative fee, all enrolled students are welcome to submit an act for the Showcase! Audition times will be announced toward the end of each session. Acts will be selected based on merit, variety, and availability.
