The week before Christmas in 1975 was not the most wonderful time of the year for acclaimed author Truman Capote. Once the favored confidante for Manhattan's most sophisticated socialites, the southern born bon vivant found himself an outcast, shunned by former pals like Babe Paley and Slim Keith, after the publication of a preview chapter from his juicy tell all roman a clef "Answered Prayers." Now Capote was left alone in his New York apartment to ponder his life, career and past mistakes like writing a book with thinly veiled, unflattering portrayals of his "best friends." With booze, drugs and food to keep him company, Capote ponders what he has done with his life in the two act mono drama "Tru" written by Jay Presson Allen.
Tony and Emmy award winning actor Robert Morse brought the author to life for 297 performances at the Booth Theatre in New York City starting on December 14, 1989. Morse later reprised his performance for the PBS series "American Playhouse" and directed a production of the play in Toronto. Now Morse is acting as the Artistic Production Advisor for an all new run of "Tru" at the Primitive Stage starting March 6th directed by Brian Patrick Harris.
Taking on the role of Truman Capote will be Michael Anthony Nozzi. His acting credits include William Frawley in the world premiere musical of "Redhead, Cuban, Hausfrau, Husband", Sister Bette in the comedy "And Then There Was Nun!" which he originated, Elwod P. Dowd in "Harvey", Thaddeus in "Corpus Christi" by Terrence McNally performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, many characters in "Greater Tuna" performed in both Los Angeles and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Daphne in 4 productions of "Sugar". Michael Anthony has also directed "Once Upon A Mattress", "Little Shop of Horrors!" and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" in the Los Angeles area. In addition, he has been designing sets, performing, directing, and choreographing professionally for the last 50 years. "Tru" is set to be a limited engagement with performances every Friday and Saturday night at 8p.m. from March 6th through March 21st at The Primitive Stage.
