AND SO WE DANCE ON
AND SO WE DANCE ON is the first solo performance of Project606 Dance's 6th Season.  Project606 will premiere two new works in a new venue, the Fasseas White Box Theater, 1535 N Dayton St, Chicago.  Only two opportunities to see these works, Saturday March 21st at 8pm or Sunday March 22nd at 6pm.

AND SO WE DANCE ON will explore the urge that creators feel to return to their art after the experience of a distraction, a disruption or even a traumatic event.  Do we return to our craft as a way to heal or to hide? Two world premieres will be presented, one choreographed by Resident Choreographer Jenny DeMuth and the other by Project606 Artistic Director Meghann Mueller.  The two works, while at first glance dissimilar, will weave with a common thread: the costuming. Using formalwear as the main costuming element, DeMuth and Mueller will find unique ways to incorporate formal dresses into their respective works.  While each work will have a unique focus and intent, the formal dresses will serve as a powerful reoccurrence and connection between the two pieces.

DeMuth's piece, Warning! This Product May Contain Nuts (a working title) will promise to be as whimsical as it sounds! DeMuth started with the idea of the formal dress, what does it represent in life? There are many different "dresses" we get for many pivotal moments in our lives: First Communions, proms, weddings, funerals, etc., are all very specific and ritualistic. How do we as dancers use the element of dressing or costuming to complete our art? A single visual element can be changed and it entirely alters the tone, mood and meaning of the piece.

Mueller's work, Where Have All the Stoics Gone? is an exploration of recovery.  Does trauma create a sense of constant danger or fear? Perhaps there is a disconnect that leaves us feeling numb? Regardless of how we cope, when (if ever) is recovery complete?  For Mueller, the use of the dresses signifies our urge to conceal our pain, and the inevitable repercussions that result in our camouflage.  Is it a simply a measure of self preservation?  How and why do we disguise our discomfort, pain or grief?

Featuring the collective artistry of nine very talented performers, come see Project606 Dance in AND SO WE DANCE ON.
