UIC CUPPA AA - Maple Syrup Hike at Ryerson Woods
A sure sign that spring is on the way is the tapping of sugar maple trees at the Ryerson Conservation Area in Riverwoods.
Take a Maple Syrup Hike with a Lake County Forest Preserve naturalist and learn how sap from the sugar maple trees is turned into sweet maple syrup. Everyone gets a taste.
The one-hour Maple Syrup Hikes is offered on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 3:30 PM. The cost is $10.00 per hiker. Hikes are open to all ages. The one hour event begins with indoor programming, a taste of sap and syrup, followed by a short hike. DRESS APPROPRIATELY because it is a partially outdoor tour/hike.
Ryerson Woods is one of the few local areas where climate conditions are right for maple syrup production and where trees grow to a diameter and height that allows for tapping. Syrup production only happens in late winter and very early spring.
The entrance to Ryerson Woods is on Riverwoods Road south of Half Day Road and west of the I-94 tollway.
