The Vagina Monologues
Hailed by The New York Times as "funny" and "poignant" and by the Daily News as "intelligent" and "courageous," The Vagina Monologues, which was first performed off-Broadway by Eve Ensler, dives into the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage, and excitement of women's experiences. Based on hundreds of interviews Ensler conducted with women, the play addresses women's sexuality, selfhood, the social stigma surrounding rape and abuse, and a host of other issues facing women today. By addressing these issues, The Vagina Monologues seeks to spark a new conversation about and with women.
The Vagina Monologues is now a part of a movement. The V-Day campaign (vday.org) works to end violence against women on a global scale, in part through community productions that facilitate community, conversation, and fundraising.
Funds raised by this production will benefit the Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio (SARNCO). SARNCO is the sexual violence intervention and prevention program serving Franklin County. SARNCO strives to empower survivors and co-survivors of sexual and relationship violence and in time, to eliminate these forms of abuse through culturally appropriate prevention programming.
The Vagina Monologues are being put on by students from the Ohio State University College of Medicine as well as undergraduate students, university and medical center staff and local community members.
