Truthdig Presents: Monsters of Our Own Creation? America's Role in the Mideast
From Islamic State to al-Qaida, Saddam Hussein to Bashar Assad, the last decade and a half has been dominated by turmoil in the Middle East. What role does the United States play in cultivating this chaos?
Will there ever be peace in Jerusalem and Gaza? Is Iran's softening a sign of hope, or an atomic trap? Does the American left have a problem with Islamophobia? Did the Arab Spring fail? Are we still at war in Iraq?
These complex questions, and some of your own, will be tackled by Middle East expert JUAN COLE and longtime foreign affairs journalist LESLIE COCKBURN at a Truthdig discussion event moderated by Editor in Chief ROBERT SCHEER.
6:30 p.m. VIP reception with guest panelists and the Truthdig team.
7:30 p.m. Discussion event begins.
