Detox: Avoiding Toxic Sexuality Pleasure and Health Products
Have you ever experienced irritation from sex toys, lubricants, or disposable menstrual products? Or perhaps you're concerned about nasty chemicals entering your body unbidden, or want to use products that are more environmentally friendly.
Many sex toys, lubricants, and yes, disposable menstrual products contain ingredients or materials that are irritating or outright harmful to the body, bad for the environment, and should be avoided- however, in America, there's almost no one doing research on the effects of these products on the human body.
In order to better inform you, in this workshop we'll be talking about:
- Toxic Sex Toys: how to spot them and the alternatives - Lubricant ingredients to avoid, osmolality, and where to find the good lube - Leather BDSM equipment that's dyed or conditioned with noxious chemicals - The harms of disposable menstrual products and surprisingly simple and sanitary alternatives
The class will wrap up with a Q&A, and attendees will come away with a goody bag of body safe awesomeness and tons of useable information. Attendees will also be able to sign up for a follow-up email that will include all of the information given in the workshop and more!
This workshop is taught by our Coordinator and Head Educator, Caitlin M of Sexational! Caitlin is passionate about body safe products; as someone who has chemical sensitivities, they find it especially important to educate about sex toy materials, lubricant ingredients, and the harms posed by disposable menstrual products, all issues that have very little research actively happening and which have little or no regulation on the government level, allowing companies to get away with potentially if not seriously harming their consumers. Caitlin is a sex educator, writer, and consultant, and you can see their website at sex-ational.com.
ACCESSIBILITY: The Philadelphia Academy of Sex Education is for everyone (as long as they're over the age of 18), and we strive to be as inclusive of everyone as possible. Our venue is at street level and accessible by wheel chair (front door has about 39"-40" clearance, workshop area door has about 37" clearance) , we have a bathroom (that unfortunately, does not have stability bars currently as it is not a public restroom), and if you have any special needs we will do our best to accommodate them. If you have any special needs, please contact us at philadelphiaacademyofsexed@gmail.com before the day of the event you'd like to attend.
Additionally, this class is presented to be inclusive to people of all genders, with no assumptions made and pronouns respected.
