THE ACCORD OF ANGELS
I'am Fred Timm, a former member to the Mary Anthony Dance Company and have been at Mary's studio for the last 25 years. Prior to working with Mary, I was a member of the Nikolais Dance Theater and toured the world. As a playwright, I have been produced 13 times in New York City, 3 times Off-Broadway. I'm am currently working as a psychotherapist but still teach dance and movement for actors at Nassau Community College.
THE PURPOSE:
To honor the artistic legacy of Mary Anthony and to keep the studio doors open, we are doing a reading of Frederick Timm's Christmas play The Accord of Angelswhich will include an excerpt from Mary's Ceremony of Carolsher exquisite angel dance.
But we need your help. We are paying the actors, the dancer and the lighting technicianplus we are paying the rent. Your financial help will not only facilitate this enchanting evening of theater, but help keep the doors of Mary's studio open and her legacy alive.
Though the play is set in a church at Christmastime, its themes are universal, especially the idea of finding a family of kindred spirits when the family of origin might be difficult or not there at all.
This echoes a theme in Mary's life, since she herself was a runaway. In response to her difficult beginnings, she created a studio that would be a haven for artists who in many ways were outcasts from their own families and needed a safe home to find themselves as artistsand people.
Also the play is about angels and their rather miraculous presence in our lives. Even in this harsh city of New York, there are angels all around who help, guide and inspireif we dare to notice, and this play helps us see.
So in this mysterious season as the days get shorter and the nights get longer, we are rather astonished to find the promise of light in this darkness. In that spirit, we hope you can make a financial contribution to make this creative project happen to honor Mary's legacy, to keep the studio open and to rekindle the magic and mystery of this wondrous time of year.
