The Heart of the Matter with Susan Coll
Whether you are at the beginning of a project, mired in a sagging middle, or saddled with a lackluster finished manuscript, it can be helpful to go back to where you began and recall the initial inspiration. What is at the heart of the story? What inspired you to begin? How can you harness the energy that caused you to sit down and write in the first place? Through a discussion and a series of short exercises, participants will hopefully return to their projects with renewed energy.
Susan Coll is the author of five novels, most recently The Stager, a New York Times editor's choice. Her novel, Acceptance, was made into a 2009 television movie starring Joan Cusack. She is the events and programs director at Politics & Prose Bookstore in Washington, DC.
How to Write Like I Do is a new writing workshop series for adults, brought to you by the good people at 826DC. Looking for a way to kick-start your writing? Interested in continuing an old project that's fallen by the wayside? We hope to bring the same kind of enthralling and effective workshops to the older set as we've been known to deliver to the younger. All ticket proceeds go to supporting the free creative and expository writing programs for kids offered by 826DC.
Interested in attending all four workshops? Buy a season pass with us and enjoy two full months of writing workshops for creative folks. (http://826dcseasonpass.bpt.me)
