The Expert's Mind: "Museum of Lost Wonder, Merging the Worlds of Myth and Science," with Jeff Hoke
THIS EVENT IS PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE EXPLORATORIUM. Expert's Mind ticket holders will receive free museum admission on this day.
Jeff Hoke is the award-winning senior exhibitions designer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. As author, artist, and science interpreter, Hoke has spent more than 30 years inspiring people's engagement with wonder. In a playful visual presentation, he will explore the relationship between art, science, and myth through two of his most recent creations, The Museum of Lost Wonder and Tomb of Illumination.
Lavishly illustrated and meticulously researched, The Museum of Lost Wonder, was published in 2006 by Weiser Books. A walk through the book's fictional museum traces the footsteps of humanity as it searches for meaning, using the ancient practice of alchemy to spur the reader to amusing yet earnest engagement with such unfathomable questions as "Who am I?" and "What is reality?" The Museum of Lost Wonder won the Independent Publishers Gold Medal in 2007. Hoke's latest publication, Tomb of Illumination, reveals the curious history of the parallels and divergences between magic and science.
