Description
The evening begins with a 7pm VIP open bar.  Mingle with todays space and entertainment luminaries including Bob Werb (Chairman and Founder of the Space Frontier Foundation), Dr. Denton Ebel (American Museum of Natural Historys Curator of Meteorites), Dr. Gregory Matloff (CUNY professor of Astrophysics), William Watson (Executive Director of the Space Frontier Foundation), Jeff Krukin (NewSpace Advisor to the North Carolina Aerospace Alliance), Michael DeDora (Executive Director of the Center for Inquiry, New York), Ross VanBurg (Speaker Chair at the Explorers Club), Taylor Dinerman (Space Journalist), Carol Pinchefsky (Editor of SpaceFuture.com), John Huntington (CUNY professor of Entertainment Technology), Kenji Williams (Violinist and creator of Bella Gaia).

General Admission opens at 8pm and includes a door prize sponsored by the Space Frontier Foundation (SFF) of free registration to their annual NewSpace conference, held this year at NASA's Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley, California, July 23 to July 25, 2010. Yuri's night is more than a really good, global party," said Bob Werb Chairman of the Board of the Space Frontier Foundation "it is also an opportunity to celebrate the huge rewards human civilization has gained from sending people into space, the fantastic opportunities that remain before us ... and a really, really good party."

Carol Pinchefsky, freelance writer and editor of Space Future.com, presents an action-packed Space Trivia Survival game in which contestants scramble to land on the right planet for each question before the music stops and leaves them stranded in outer space. Prizes will be given to the last space travelers left alive at the end of the game. Visit www.SpaceFuture.com to pack your brain with space trivia before the event.

Composer and violinist Kenji Williams presents Bella Gaia Live, a poetic vision of Earth from Space.  Developed in collaboration with NASA, Bella Gaia is a celebration of Planet Earth and the music of our world, performed by a live orchestra coordinated with gorgeous satellite imagery. Bella Gaia is just beautiful.  It really felt like I was back in space, said Piers Sellers, NASA astronaut and spacewalker.

Self-described as Sci-Fi Middle Eastern Funk that also Rocks, the New York City based instrumental trio Consider the Source will deliver effect-soaked riffing, spaced-out shredding and sitar-like twanging with funky bass and anchoring drums.  The band draws on influences from progressive rock and jazz fusion.  Consider The Source not so much played music as put the audience in a trance, taking those who listened to them in a sort of timeless zone, riding the melodiesand funk. Florida SunSentinal

The Manhattan-based New York Jedi Stage Combat group will perform a Star Warstm style light-saber battle.  The 15minute performance features teams of costumed Jedi and Sith clashing glowing light sabers with whirling choreography on the main stage.

The midnight toast to Yuri Gagarin and all who have or who will follow him into space includes commemorative shot glasses provided by the Space Frontier Foundation.

For the duration of the event, guests will enjoy additional live performances, visit with special guests from the space industry, and dance to an intergalactic music mix from star DJ the Bass and more.

Yuris Night NY is one in a series of space-themed events presented by the Space Tourism Society in support of Yuris Night, an annual worldwide space celebration. Yuri's Night and related events provide a venue for a new generation to network, explore, and create plans for the future

As a human, I reason that the human exploration and habitation of space are necessary endeavors, and ultimately one and the same. It is my hope that human communities will act in concert to speed this endeavor, regardless of their 'public' or 'private' nature. As a scientist who studies the rocks drifted into our orbit from far off places, I hope explorers visit those places in my lifetime. The optimism and potential of the NewSpace enterprises are welcome fuel for that hope."  -Dr. Denton Ebel, Curator of Meterorites, American Museum of Natural History

About Space Tourism Society  New York

Founded in 1996, the Space Tourism Society is the first organization specifically focused on the space tourism industry. They conduct research, generate public interest, and acquire the financial and political power necessary to make space tourism available to as many people as possible, as soon as possible

Headquartered in Los Angeles, the Space Tourism Society has branches in Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, Singapore, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and Washington DC; New York City is its eighth and newest branch.

Yuris Night is the St. Patricks Day of Space, said STSNY president Elizabeth Kennick. Yuris Night was celebrated at 217 parties in 47 countries last year.  New York Citys 2010 party will draw over 500 guests and will be our moon-rock-ingest event yet!

STSNY is actively seeking members who are enthusiastic about space exploration and tourism and who want to bring their ideas and insights about the future to the table.
