Symphony of the Soil is an upcoming feature-length documentary that explores the world of soil: how soil is formed, the life cycle of soil, human use and misuse of soil through agriculture, and the latest research on soils valuable role in sustainable farming, ameliorating greenhouse gases and dealing with other essential environmental issues of our time.
"Portrait of A Winemaker: John Williams of Frog's Leap" is a brief look at this pioneering winemaker and his unique dry farming method which increases soil fertility and capacity for water retention, as well as producing more flavorful wines. Water scarcity is one of the major issues facing the world today and this farming method is one man's thoughtful and economically viable answer to this challenge. This is a work in progress. "Soil In Good Heart" is a taste of the documentary Symphony of the Soil currently in production. The importance of understanding, preserving and rebuilding this essential resource is the foundation of sustainable agriculture. We are all part of the soil community and we ignore this at our peril! BIO OF FILMMAKER: Bio: Deborah Koons Garcia, Director/Producer Deborah Koons Garcia is a filmmaker whose production company Lily Films is based in Mill Valley, California. Her film The Future of Food (2004) screened at film, food and farming festivals and community gatherings all over the world. She is now working on a multi-part film and web-based project entitled Symphony of the Soil. The short films Portrait of a Winemaker: John Williams of Frogs Leap and Soil In Good Heart are the first manifestations of this complex and fascinating undertaking.
