Stairway of the Stars Concert

For over 60 years, the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District has produced an annual musical extravaganza to share the outstanding music education programs in the district with the community that provides much of the support. The district's excellent music programs are featured in a two-night concert called "Stairway of the Stars" at the Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica. The program consists of an Elementary Honor Band, Orchestra and Choir as well as middle and high school orchestra, choir, concert bands and jazz band.

Overall, there are approximately 1,000 student performers involved in the event. The 2010 concert will actually be the 61st Annual Stairway-of-the-Stars concert!
This year, the concert will take place on March 25th and 26th, 2010 from 7pm to about 9pm. Each year, a guest conductor is featured to work with the district's students and this year, with the choir as the focus, Dr. Jo-Michael Scheibe, the choral music director from USC will serve as the 2010 Stairway Guest Conductor.

The 2010 Stairway Honor Award Recipient will be Jeff Leibow. Jeff is a successful dancer, actor, musician and singer who graduated from the SMMUSD music program and now makes his living in the arts.

All elementary honor groups, middle and high school choirs and jazz band will perform Thursday and Friday evenings. Middle and high school bands will perform on Friday ONLY. Middle and high school orchestras will perform on Thursday night ONLY.

Ticket sales will begin to the general public on Thursday, March 25th at 5:30 pm at the Civic Center Box Office. Ticket price: $14.00 each

From 3/19/2010 until 12 hours before the event -- tickets will be delivered to Will Call and may be picked up on the night of the event.

Note: Please not that there is a strict limit of six tickets per student ID, If more then six tickets are purchased any additional tickets will be refunded.
