Laboratory Dancers Premiere New Work at Hamlin Park
The Laboratory Dancers, a Chicago-based dance company, premiere new work in Blindsightedblindsidedblindsitedblindcited, which will be performed February 11 and 12 at Hamlin Park Fieldhouse Theater (3035 N. Hoyne St.).
The year-old company will perform choreography by Artistic Directors Emily Lukasewski and Alexandra Subak. Lukasewski's piece entitled "Omgroflttyl" examines the advertising industry's use of meaningless and often contradictory language. The piece also addresses the industry's penetration and saturation into the public's conscious and subconscious minds. Subak's "alloveragainalloveragainallover" deals with the dichotomy between the pursuit of societal and interpersonal success and the inevitable exhaustion that accompanies said pursuits.
Laboratory Dancers is a collective of artists committed to combating consumerism with their own brand of production. The Chicago-based modern dance pick-up company is in the process of obtaining its 501(c)(3) non-profit status, while continuing to create new works and collaborate with other artists and organizations, such as Rumble Arts Center. The company has performed at Links Hall, Red Tape Theatre, and Ball Hall. Through affordable performances and events, the company aims to bring the art of modern dance to new audiences and inspire creative thought.
February 11 and 12 performances begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased in advance at brownpapertickets.org. For more information, visit laboratorydancers.com or email the Artistic Directors at laboratorydancers@gmail.com.
