Best described as a modern dance/freak show cabaret with a splash of burlesque, The Rusted Ruse Carnivale comes to the Milagro Theater via a troupe of decrepit sideshow performers who rely on their lust for the limelight over their unique yet rather deflated talents to win over audiences.
Staged as a show within a show, The Rusted Ruse is a microcosm of the strange and the absurd. The motley cast of characters includes Conjoined Twins who harbor dreams of separation, a puny Strong Woman, a flirtatiously feminine Bearded Lady, and a charming Snake Woman. Armed with only memories of their golden years and a trunk of dusty costumes and props, this group of sideshow players will sacrifice anything to regain the spotlight and the applause of the audience.
