Savage Jazz Dance in Concert, with the World Premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Agon
Laney College Theater Oakland, CA
Savage Jazz Dance Company, in its eighteenth season, presents the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Agon. The centerpiece of this dance concert is an inspired response to the music of Agon, an acclaimed collaboration between George Balanchine and Igor Stravinsky. The abstract form of Agon allows Savage Jazz to capture a spirit that reflects how modern the music still is 50 years later. The dance is Reginald-Ray Savage's vision of a black American male who has embraced the image and energy of America's past and the hope of America's future on a united front through the spirit of this music that captures the aggression, the competition, the frustration, the love, and the hope of the right now. The concert will present Gershwin's Lullaby, and the acclaim classical modern group Alarm Will Sound's Blue Calx.
Note: Late seating will be done at appropriate intervals. Due to the nature of the arts, the order or content of the program is subject to change.
