Take the 'A' Train: A Harlem Renaissance Concert
The Teaneck Community Chorus' winter concert will feature music and spoken word from the 1919-1935 period known as the Harlem Renaissance. Choral selections include well-known favorites such as "Handful of Keys", by Fats Waller; "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)", by Irving Mills and Duke Ellington; "I'm Just Wild About Harry", by Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake; the classic "Take the 'A' Train", by Billy Strayhorn; and more.
The Teaneck Community Chorus will be joined on the concert by the Teaneck High School Madrigal choir and Rachelle Gill Alexander, the winner of last year's Teen Idol contest. A special treat will be a performance of readings by noted poets from the era such as Langston Hughes and James Weldon Johnson, by well-known Teaneck performance artist Lottie Porch.
