The Kinsey Sicks in "Oy Vey in a Manger"
[PLEASE NOTE: You may print your own tickets or load them on your mobile phone. If you are unable to do either of these, call Ner Shalom at (707) 664-8622.]
This evening marks the last California performance of Ner Shalom's spiritual leader, Irwin Keller, as Winnie of the Kinsey Sicks. Come join the fun, and bid this incarnation of Winnie farewell!
For 21 years, THE KINSEY SICKS have decked the halls with angelic singing, devilish wit, and down-and-dirty drag. They have been praised for their "voices sweet as birdsong" (New York Times) and have been called "one act that should not be missed" (Variety). "Their mangling of hit songs hits genius level" (San Francisco Chronicle).
In their holiday show, OY VEY IN A MANGER, we find Rachel, Winnie, Trixie and Trampolina at home in their manger (yes, that manger) facing imminent foreclosure and preparing for one last-ditch effort to unload the dump on unsuspecting buyers. Crises arise, secrets are revealed, Jewish-Gentile tensions surface like bacon fat in matzahball soup, and mayhem ensues. And all in glorious four-part harmony.
The critics say this about OY VEY IN A MANGER:
In an ecumenical display of wicked joie de vivre, the Kinsey Sicks are sending up everything that's holy in "Oy Vey in a Manger," a raunchily audacious declaration that nothing about the holidays is sacred If you haven't made the acquaintance of the Kinsey Sicks, it's high time you did. (Washington Post.)
Those who think drag is gawky transvestites in bad wigs lip-synching have another think coming: The Kinsey Sicks are gawky transvestites in bad wigs singing with voices to die for, whose lush arrangements would make the Sing-Off judges swoon. (Huffington Post.)
OY VEY IN A MANGER boasts unforgivable KINSEY SICKS reinterpretations of holiday classics, such as "Lusty the Snowman," "Satan Baby," and "God Bless Ye Femmy Lesbians." And what would the holiday season be without a production number in Yiddish?
WARNING: This is not a show for children or for the faint of heart.
THE KINSEY SICKS were spawned in San Francisco in 1993. Combining rich, four-part harmony, biting satire and over-the-top drag, THE KINSEY SICKS have performed in 41 states, Mexico, Canada, Europe and Australia. They starred in their own Off-Broadway show at New York's Studio 54, have released 8 albums and are the subjects of two feature films. Read more about them at www.kinseysicks.com.
