15-PIECE LATIN JAZZ BIG BAND, "CHICAGO AFRO-LATIN JAZZ ENSEMBLE", TAKES STAGE TO RAISE FUNDS FOR DEBUT RECORDING
On Tuesday, December 1, 2009 "one of the Chicago jazz world's musical treasures" will take the stage at the famed Jazz Showcase as hosts of an evening dedicated to raising funds for their long-awaited debut recording. The night will feature new works by co-leaders of CALJE, Darwin Noguera and Victor Garcia, as well as special guest artists.
CALJE is an ensemble with a vision and a mission: to keep the great tradition of Latin Jazz big band alive in the city of Chicago. The group continuously strives to contribute to the stimulation of the arts, culture, and diversity of the Windy City.
CALJE was founded in 2006 by Nicaraguan pianist/composer Darwin Noguera, and Mexican trumpeter/composer Victor Garcia. Some of their most notable performances include Millennium Park: Made in Chicago World Class Jazz Series with four Grammy winning/nominated guests, headlining at the Jazz Institute's Chicago Latin Jazz Festival, the Isthmus Jazz Festival, Hothouse Jazz en Clave Latin Jazz Festival, and most recently, the Chicago Jazz Festival in September of 2009.
Reviews:
"The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble offers a big band experience that most cities can't afford, but most likely, musicians and listeners across the country would love to own. The rest of us will just need to remain envious and imagine the treat that Chicago gets to experience." Chip Boaz, Latin Jazz Corner
"Darwin and Victor are very courageous! The Chicago Afro-Latin Jazz Ensemble offers great tunes, modern harmonies, wonderful soloists and sharp ensemble performances, all with a groove that inspires dancing and a great evening on the town." Marshall Vente, Pianist/Host of Jazz Tropicale 90.9 fm WDCB
"With musicians of this caliber playing such hot arrangements‚ it's easy to see why the band sounds so tasty and good. With the abilities of the players, the vision and drive of co-founders Garcia and Noguera, and the evident desire of this band to climb even higher pinnacles in their playing and arrangements combined together, leads me to believe that there is nothing stopping this band from achieving their goal of becoming the world class Latin Jazz band that Chicago both needs and deserves." Brad Walseth, Jazz Chicago
NOTE: No one under 21 years old will be admitted.
