Aytia/Matia I: Sleep Cycles SOLD OUT FOR REALZ NOW
Were a new mixed-media artist collective formed by some of New York Citys most talented young composers, filmmakers, fine artists and visual artists. Out of a great admiration for each others work, we decided to collaborate, to compose pieces out of musical and video fragments, and to premiere these pieces within the framework of larger, conceptual events.
We are holding our first event Aytia/Matia I: Sleep Cycles from 7:30-10:00pm on Friday, November 20th, 2009 at the Dumbo Loft, 155 Water St, Brooklyn, NY.
As the name might suggest, we conceived this particular event using the five stages of sleep, or the REM sleep cycle, as a guide. The moment you enter the venue, you slip into stage one sleep, those few moments when you're still half-lucid. As the performance progresses, so do you through the five stages of sleep, culminating in the premiere of Pyramid Scheme, composer, Grayson Sanders suite for electro-acoustic orchestra.
It is our hope that the whole evening, from the detailed design of the space to the continuous sequence of performances, truly feels like a journey through the human unconscious, and that, as the audience files out of the loft, they recognize it was the event itself that was the real piece of art.
The show starts promptly at 8pm. For the half hour before and during our two short intermissions, we will offer catered hors d'oeuvres and a flowing vodka bar.
