ISF 2014 Annual Banquet
Mass media has an undoubtedly powerful influence on society's beliefs and perspectives. While social networks and citizen journalism help express alternative voices, traditional media still holds the most substantial power. For this reason, the negative portrayal of Muslims in mainstream media remains a cause for great concern.
The Islamic Scholarship Fund (ISF) believes that the most effective way to tackle this problem is through self-representation, direct involvement and creative pursuits. Since its inception in 2009, ISF has supported 115 outstanding Muslim students to pursue careers in media, film, social sciences and law, with a vision for American Muslim students to redirect the discourse and establish an accurate portrayal of Muslims in their every day lives.
Please join us on Saturday, October 18th to discuss how identities are defined by today's media, and how we can play an effective role in ensuring respect of individuals from all walks of life.
