ASTER Women's Chamber Choir "I Feel a Song Comin' On"

Most of us are familiar with the names George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, and Cole Porter and the seemingly endless number of hit songs which they wrote. In this concert, ASTER will introduce you to some of the women of Tin Pan Alley who contributed lyrics or composed the music for many other popular songs we still hear today. Come join us On the Sunny Side of the Street and bring some friends with you as we kick off our 15th season with this salute to Dorothy Fields, Kay Swift, Ann Ronnel, Dana Suesse and others.

Our special guest is Anna Wheeler Gentry, who may surprise you with some fascinating facts about these creative women, their accomplishments, and their associations within the songwriting salons of the first half of the twentieth century. Ms. Gentry's research on the Great American Songbook and the history of Broadway includes published works on the topics of American lyricist E. Y. Harburg, Russian-born composer Vernon Duke, Twentieth-Century women choreographers, and the controversy in theatre, film and broadcast media during the McCarthy Era. She has performed solo concerts at New York's Lincoln Center and Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music, and teaches theatre and film studies at Arizona State University.
