| Description |
The Duhks, a multifaceted roots group from Winnipeg, Manitoba, exhibits a wide range of styles and influences in this lively Mountain Stage performance. The band's lineup has changed a bit in the five years since its inception: Singer Sarah Dugas and her brother, percussionist Christian Dugas, just joined last year. Despite the shuffle, however, the group's songwriting and performance skills remain unshaken.
"Fast Paced World," the title track from The Duhks' latest album, employs Latin rhythms and percussion, syncopated banjo compositions and eerie fiddle arrangements alongside Dugas' soulful vocals. During this performance, the group also covers "Mighty Storm," an obscure folk number about the great Galveston Flood of 1900, before ripping into the raucous, bluesy "95 South," which is banjo player Leonard Padolak's tribute to the highway that leads to North Carolina. Fiddler Tania Elizabeth, guitarist Jordan McConnell and Podolak round out The Duhks and contribute backing vocals.
Josiah Leming
Josiah Leming was born in a small town in East Tennessee. He was raised by a mother and a father who worked ceaselessly to put food on the table for Josiah and his 8 syblings, including four brothers and four sisters. Where money was sometimes scarce, Josiah's parents made up it for with a more than sufficient amount of love and support. It was these humble beginnings that gave birth to an unbelievable sense of ambition and pride in Josiah. At a young age it was clear to see that Josiah was driven by a restless, and sometimes reckless imagination that never ceased to grip him. From that imagination came the devotion to create a truly original and inspiring art form drawn from a large influencial pool including writers, singers, actors and political figures. At the age of 8 Josiah began playing the piano, almost completely self taught, with the fundamental help of a local elderly piano instructor. Josiah began writing his own music around the age of 16, and began performing locally shortly thereafter. After picking up the guitar, bass, and drums, Josiah pretty much abandoned structured education, and at the age of 17 dropped out of school, to the dismay and disrespect of many. Josiah spent a year travelling the country, performing and improving both his songwriting ability and performance skills. After a brief appearence on the TV reality karaoke show American Idol, Josiah signed with Warner Brothers Records, and is currently in London finishing up his debut album, set to realease fall 2008. As far as the music goes? Explanations are not needed, just give him a listen. (: (this paragraph was once again written by Josiah Leming haha, I figured 3rd person sounded more professional.) NOTE: No one under 18 years old will be admitted.
