Event
Rotunda Club Dance Party
Fans of Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance will have an opportunity to test their own skills.
The Rotunda, an elegant room with views of downtown Providence, will be transformed into a hot, swinging, rocking dance space, with live music to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and to benefit the Providence Latin American Film Festival (PLAFF).
Tickets to benefit PLAFF are $25, and include Rotunda Club admission, complimentary parking, access to the VIP PLAFF Lounge, and 2 tickets to their opening night film. Tickets are available on-line at www.plaff.org.
General admission is $12 and $20 for reserved seating and complimentary parking.
Cocktails and delicious Hispanic-influenced refreshments will be available and a special parking rate of $4.00 at the RI Convention Center garage will be offered to ticket holders.
No fear if you dont know the moves. The evening starts off at 6:30 with salsa dance lessons by the sensational dance guru, Sydonee Harris. Harris, who owns Sydonees Dance School in East Providence, and teaches regularly at Xxodus Cafe, Monet, and Olives, will offer an hour of instruction.
This is first in a series of dance nights, produced by The Rotunda Club, an event company based in Providence. A live orchestra and/or great DJ will set the stage, and each evening will be held at locations throughout Providence. The styles of each dance will cross continents, and will be based on special themes. In fact, costumes are encouraged.
Future dance nights include: a Bollywood extravaganza, inspired by Slumdog Millionnaire and the music videos from India; a Victor/Victoria birthday celebration for Julie Andrews, featuring the ladies from Downcitys famed Drag Brunch; Thriller: Embrace Your Inner Zombie with a Halloween homage to Michael Jackson; Jump, Jive n Wail: a tribute to Tommy Dorsey's Orchestra, the Andrews Sisters and Veterans Day.
The year will culminate in a New Years Eve Bash. The Rotunda Club will kick off 2010 with a Rat Pack Casino Night featuring the music of Louis Prima and legends of The Strip.
The Rotunda Club is a venture of Kim Polson, Ruth Davis and Paul Borrelli, three professional event producers based in Providence, RI.
