FOUND LIVES
FOUND LIVES: A NEW THEATER PIECE EXPLORES THE INNER LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH SCHIZOPHERNIA USING THEIR OWN WORDS.
NAMI Multnomah, in collaboration with professional theater company New Moon Productions presents "Found Lives," a new theater piece which explores the inner lives of people with schizophrenia in their own words.
New Moon Productions has teamed up with a medical school psychiatrist to weave words written by people with schizophrenia into a theatrical work that explores the inner lives, struggles, and triumphs of people with this illness. Every word in the piece is taken, by permission, from internet blogs that were written over a period of years by people with schizophrenia or by their family members. Writers Michael Wehrli and Kristina Armetta and psychiatrist William H. Wilson selected and arranged these entries to allow the public a rare glimpse into the experience in people with schizophrenia. The only alterations have been changes in names and places.
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness based in faulty brain functioning which affects 1% of the population worldwide, yet is poorly understood by the public. Most media reports of schizophrenia revolve around rare sensational events so that it is difficult for the public to truly understand the experience of individuals with schizophrenia and their needs. Found Lives is designed to enhance public understanding of the human side of this illness and reduce the stigma which is associated with schizophrenia.
Tickets for the performance of FOUND LIVES are $25.00, general admission. If you would like to make an additional donation to NAMI Multnomah, please visit the website at www.nami.org/multnomah
