Event
Voci Angelica Trio and filmmaker Jordan Salvatoriello
All butterfly events begin with a 7pm anything-goes potluck (beer and wine provided) followed by music at 8pm and a talk show portion of the evening at 8:45. Friday September 12th features a virtuosic music group and a talk given by a humanitarian female film-maker.
Re-imagining the boundaries of traditional folk music, Voci Angelica Trio's riveting arrangements of global songs from every continent leave audiences mesmerized. This unusual multi-cultural group which combines cello, percussion and voices also seeks to promote social change by bringing us a diverse musical menu.
Film-maker Jordan Salvatoriello cashed in all her chips to spend a summer in Kenya at a unique girls's school, teaching photography and making a documentary about the girls she met. Tackling the painful challenges many African girls face in overcoming gender stereotypes to seek an education is the moving subject Jordan brings to us in her film "Graceland Girls". Screening followed by discussion and Q & A. This is Jordan's first feature film which has garnered her many awards and points to a long and influential career.
Please note: our ticket prices are higher than usual for this event because we are fundraising for TWO causes: our usual music education programming AND for Jordan's next film venture... so let's pull out our wallets to support the arts.
